The South Harbor Reconstruction Project is underway, with multiple floats in place and progress on the uplands work along Nicholoff Way proceeding as planned. The City of Cordova aims to keep mariners and the public informed about upcoming dates, milestones, and expected service levels.
KEY POINTS
- The South Harbor project is currently on track, with efforts focused on making slips available before the commencement of the 2024 fishing season.
- Berths will be allocated as close as possible to vessels’ previous slips, considering size constraints.
- The overall project is scheduled for completion by mid-to-late June 2024.
- Electrical and water services may not be immediately accessible at individual berths but will be phased in as work progresses.
- Vessel owners must ensure their electrical systems meet the updated code requirements for the new harbor systems. The Harbormaster’s office will host an information session for interested vessel owners at the April 10th Harbor Commission meeting at 6 pm in the Cordova Center.During the information session, vessel owners will have the opportunity to learn about the specific updates to the code requirements and how they can ensure their electrical systems comply with the new standards. The Harbormaster will be available to answer any questions and provide guidance on making the necessary adjustments to meet the regulations.
- Slip fees are determined based on the “length overall” or LOA, which includes the measurement of vessels from the bow to stern, incorporating outboards or any other fixed, permanent features on the vessel. However, the LOA calculation for slip fees does not include anchors, skiffs, and other easily detachable features.
