To declare candidacy: Any qualified voter who meets the residency and age requirements of the elective office must file, not more than eight weeks (Tuesday, January 10, 2017) and at least four weeks (Tuesday February 07, 2017) prior to the election, with the city clerk, a sworn declaration of candidacy using the declaration of candidacy form that applies to the office for which he or she is a candidate in order for the voter's name to appear on the ballot as a candidate for that elective office.
Residency and age requirements: Mayor and City Council: One year immediately preceding the election and eighteen years of age. School Board Member: One year immediately preceding the election and eighteen years of age.
Voter registration: Voter registration applications may be obtained at City Hall or you may register online at http://www.elections.alaska.gov/ . To be qualified to vote in a regular or special city election, a voter must be: A) Qualified to vote in state elections and registered to vote in state elections at a residence address within the city limits of Cordova at least thirty days (Sunday February 5, 2017) immediately preceding the municipal election; B) A resident of the city for thirty days (Sunday February 5, 2017) immediately preceding the municipal election; and C) Not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution.
