Cordova Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) was founded in 1908. Led by Fire Chief Mike Hicks and Deputy Fire Chief Robert Mattson, between 20-30 volunteer firefighters and medics work directly with the City's Fire Marshall and a City-employed firefighter/medic to provide 24-7 Fire and Ambulance service to the community. CVFD teams include Rescue Company 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Medic 7, Medic 8 & Tanker 9. Department members also provide first aid and other services for various community functions and participate in local festivities, including delivering Santa to Cordova's annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony. CVFD meets every Thursday night at 7:30 pm in the Firehall and active members regularly attend ongoing training and drills.
