Election Information
Municipal Elections are scheduled for March of each year. In general, the designated polling place is Community Room A in the Cordova Center. Information regarding the next regularly scheduled election becomes available in December.
Registered voters may also participate in State and National elections at Cordova polling locations; information is publicized as it becomes available. Federal/State Primary Election August 18, 2026. RESULTS
Ballots counted: 425 Ballots counted tonight- including 306 cast at the polls on Election Day, 106 cast early, 13 mailed ballots returned by today, March 3.
City Council: Lee Collins & Kasey Kinsman win the 2 seats
Hospital Services Board – Kelsey Hayden
School Board – Malani Towle
Prop 1 – Loan for Bear & litter mitigation fence – Yes wins
Certification of the election is slated for the March 18 Regular City Council Meeting. Per charter section 10-2 the newly elected or re-elected begin their terms the day after certification.

Declaration of Candidacy
To Declare Candidacy: Any qualified voter who meets the residency and age requirements of the elective office must file, not earlier than the date of first posting of this notice (Tuesday December 16, 2025) and at least by 30 days before the election (by Monday February 2, 2026), with the city clerk, a sworn declaration of candidacy using the declaration of candidacy form that applies to the office for which they are a candidate in order for the voter’s name to appear on the ballot as a candidate for that elective office.
Residency Requirements: Mayor, City Council, and School Board: One year immediately preceding the election.
Hospital Service Board: One year immediately preceding the election and able to meet the requirements in the Cordova Municipal Code 15.20.010.

To be qualified to vote in a Regular or Special City Election, a voter must be:
A. Qualified to vote in State Elections and registered to vote in State Elections at a residence address within the City limits of Cordova at least thirty days immediately preceding the City Elections (by Sunday, February 1, 2026),
B. A resident of the City for Thirty days immediately preceding the City Election (by Sunday February 1, 2026), and
C. Not disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution.

Absentee and Special Needs Ballots:
Applications: The application for absentee voting will be accepted from January 1 though February 25, 2026. Email or call the City Clerk for applications or download, Absentee Application.
Casting An Absentee Ballot: Absentee ballots must be mailed with a postmarked date of on or before March 3, 2026, and must be received no later than March 17,2026 to be counted. Absentee ballots can also be deposited in the election drop box upstairs at the Cordova Center under the covered driveway by close of polls, 8pm on March 3, 2026.
Absentee Voting a Special Needs Ballot: To vote by an absentee by special needs ballot, a qualified voter must be unable to get to the polling place because of disability, infirmity, or confinement. This ballot can be obtained by a request from a representative on election day or up to 21 days before election day (beginning on Feb 10) to the City Clerk.
